Rigo-Cheneau braces: Proven and effective
Having a diagnosis of scoliosis (often called AIS – Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis) in your child can be an upsetting and traumatic experience. You may be scared of the condition developing and its’ consequences. You will want to ask a host of questions and will inevitably get different answers, some of which will be confusing, full of acronyms or jargon, or even contradictory. RSC scoliosis braces are individually designed for each client to produce optimum results with the best possible outcome.
Welcome to Cymortho
Cymortho is owned and run by Hugh Malleson, State Registered Orthotist. Hugh works in collaboration with Ortholutions Gmbh of Rosenheim in Germany. Ortholutions manufacture the world-famous Rigo-System-Cheneau (RSC) braces that are being used all over Europe and beyond to manage scoliosis.
Hugh is a highly experienced orthotist, having trained in London, and practiced mainly in South Wales for most of his career, both within the NHS and the private sector.
Hugh’s association with Ortholutions evolved over a number of years, having originally met Dino Gallo and Jenny Schmid at a trade fair in Leipzig, Germany. After lengthy discussions and research, it became apparent that the treatment of scoliosis within the NHS is very much orientated towards maintainance of the curve before the inevitable outcome of surgical intervention as “conservative methods don’t work”.
Seeing results that were being achieved in Germany and also by Rowan Berkowitz in South Africa, it was clear that RSC bracing was offering a viable, effective alternative to the current approach in the UK.
Bracing for the Future
The training seminar was a revelation: conducted almost entirely By Dr Manuel Rigo himself, the effect of the RSC system was clearly far ahead of most other conservative interventions available in the UK, and, combining bracing with a competent and suitably trained Schroth Physiotherapist involved would offer scoliosis patients a genuine alternative to the treatments available in the UK.
Ortholutions have a network of practitioners throughout the world, and we freely communicate with one another, promoting good practice and having problem-solving discussions.
Hugh now works for Dacey Ltd, Wales’ only orthotics manufacturing company, servicing clinics in South Wales and the West of England, and all assessments and fittings are conducted in modern clinic rooms available to private practitioners within the company.
Types of Scoliosis
Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis
Adults and Scheuermanns Disease
More evidence is emerging with regard to pain management in adults who developed scoliosis as a child or adolescent, or those who have acquired it in later life. We hear many stories of adults who have developed chronic and debilitating back pain as a result of scoliosis, and many of the treatments available on the NHS are either invasive or not very effective. In many cases, the application of a custom-made RSC brace alongside a bespoke Schroth Therapy programme can be highly effective in managing the pain.
Treatments
Main Treatment
The RSC brace that your child will wear is just part of the intervention for scoliosis: a vital component of treatment is a form of Physiotherapy known as Schroth Therapy, named after, and devised originally by a German Physiotherapist called Katherina Schroth. Each client is taught a series of exercises, which include stretches and muscle strengthening exercises designed specifically for the nature of the curve (a bit like the brace). Also, he or she will need to learn a new breathing technique which maximises the effectiveness of the brace.
RSC Brace
By visiting this page, you have accessed information about one of the most effective treatment methods for scoliosis. RSC (Rigo-System-Cheneau) bracing is recognised as one of the most advanced systems in the world. Not only is is endorsed by Dr Manuel Rigo, but he devised the complex classification system which is the hallmark of the concept.
The details and X rays of each client are reviewed personally by Dr Rigo, which means that he has direct input into the treatment of your son or daughter.
